Chianti Classico Early-Harvest Single-Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The pepperiness, or “bite”, of early harvest Tuscan olive oil indicates the oil contains a high concentration of polyphenols: proven health-benefiting antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, which improve blood sugar levels and help your heart, skin, gut, and cognitive health.
A freshly pressed liquid gem!

This year’s handsome crew!
We pick early in the season at Sornanino,
for highest quality, and we pressed oil on
23 and 29 October.
Ours is an early harvest single-estate small batch Chianti Classico extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), with all olives being pressed shortly after picking while they are still very fresh.
The fresh 2024-25 season Sornanino oil has arrived in the UK, ready to share with you while it is super new and super vivacious. As ever, it has the specific characteristics of an exceptional quality single-estate Tuscan Olive Oil: taste with herbal tones and artichoke, and aftertaste with spicy, fruity piquant tones, and a strong green colour.
Enjoy drizzled over potatoes, meats, seafood, roasted vegetables, bruschetta, into soups... on yoghurt and ice-cream.
This summer, our 2023-24 season Extra Virgin Olive Oil won gourmet food recognition for Quality – a Silver Medal from the London International Olive Oil Competition (LIOOC) and a Star award from Great Taste Awards. The judges’ praise:
* A spicy, lively, in your face olive oil, this is not a product that is backward in coming forward. Great colour and a bright peppery taste and a strong bitter, long aftertaste.
* Grassy on the nose, this deeply green EVOO has a buttery mouthfeel and pleasing peppery finish. A young oil with a good amount of character.
* Perfect and Outstanding. It has bite but not too much.
* A characterful oil with penetrating notes and a variety of different beautiful bitter and herbal elements making themselves known. There's an inviting warmth underneath which endures well.
* It's punchy, more for the connoisseur than the faint hearted .
* A pleasing green colour. This EVOO has a powerful flavour and peppery finish. It coats the mouth equally and generously. It is a full flavoured oil, with bite.
This pepperiness, or “bite”, of early harvest Tuscan olive oil indicates the oil contains a high concentration of polyphenols: proven health-benefiting antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, which improve blood sugar levels and help your heart, skin, gut, and cognitive health.
We were up against the weather this October, with severe storms and floods in the region with cars in Siena flooded to the top of their windscreens. We must harvest when olives are completely dry. So we had some frustrating days where rain cancelled picking completely.
The olives are handpicked by a small group of family and friends.
Hand picking, rather than mechanized picking, helps protect the trees and fruit from damage.
The oil this harvest is, once again, made by the cold extraction process and then filtered as it comes off the press. The filtering helps the oil retain its peppery ‘new oil’ ‘bite’ very well over time, and reduces the development of sediment. Because of the higher polyphenols and antioxidants, this early harvest oil has a longer shelf life.
